Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was unable to produce to the High Court a letter from the Prime Minister's Department which purportedly contained an invitation for a meeting with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

"I wish to explain to Yang Arif about the letter. I have spoken to (the prime minister's) political secretary."

"Since he has yet to be officially appointed and taken his oath, therefore the invitation letter and the letter to explain the purpose of the meeting could not be issued by that officer," Zahid told Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah.

Following this, Justice Sequerah ruled that Zahid did not commit contempt and there might have been a miscommunication on the accused's part.

The High Court was told today that the RM6 million channelled to Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB), owned by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was a political and charitable donation, and not a bribe to secure a project.

The 1MDB trial involving Najib at the High Court was cut short today on an application by the defence, as his lead counsel Shafee Abdullah needed to meet his lawyer over his own trial.

High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah then rejected the application for the postponement but vacated the trial dates set in April.

The trial before Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah will continue with the 10th prosecution witness, former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman.

Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah ordered the charges to be read to Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, after allowing the prosecutions application to amend the 14 charges.

The last proceeding of the case was on March 6 before High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah and was supposed to continue on March 24, but had to be postponed following enforcement of the MCO.
